Bethesda Bungalows – Green Building

Here is an interesting video and article about a company in the Maryland/ D.C. area that is building a home that is LEED Certified and Green Built.  Green Building is a challenging endeavor that takes a lot of wise choices and diligence  to make a home work well and be at budget.  One of the interesting things that has happened in the last few years is the emphasis on Green Building has led manufacturers and builders to try to capitalize on the movement.  The reality of green building is that it still requires a recognition that there are sensible choices that increase the performance of the home without breaking the bank.  There is a desire by many to make green choices at all costs, and for that client or person, they should recognize that while the technology is improving, the impact of the choices are often times yet to be determined.  While certain choices will minimize short term impact, the overall goal of green building should be one that creates a longevity to the product and makes housing less temporary thus reducing the long term impact on a place and resources.  Green building will take on many new faces and looks over the next decade as pressure on resources and monies become greater.  The real change will come, like it or not, when buyers are directly impacted in their pocket books in a positive way.
